The irregular galaxy IC 10 is situated in Cassiopeia – it is the closest known starburst galaxy and the only one in the Local Group of galaxies.A rich section of the Milky Way runs through Cassiopeia – containing several open clusters, young luminous galactic disc stars, and nebulae.A supernova remnant designated as Cassiopeia A – is the brightest extrasolar radio source in the sky at frequencies above 1 GHz.The constellation of Cassiopeia hosts some of the most luminous stars known, including the yellow hypergiants Rho Cassiopeiae, and V509 Cassiopeiae, and the white hypergiant 6 Cassiopeiae.Alpha Cassiopeiae is occasionally outshone by the variable star Gamma Cassiopeiae, which sometimes reaches magnitude 1.6.Cassiopeia is located in the northern sky and from latitudes above 34 oN it is visible all year-round.The brightest star in Cassiopeia is Schedar – Alpha Cassiopeiae – which has an apparent magnitude of 2.2, and it is 676 times brighter than our Sun.There are two Messier objects in Cassiopeia, Messier 52, and Messier 103 – both are open clusters.The star HR 8832 is believed to host seven planets.Currently, there are around 14 known stars that host exoplanets in Cassiopeia.Cassiopeia is the 25 th largest constellation in the sky, stretching across for around 598 square degrees.Cassiopeia is now among the 88 modern constellations and it is easily recognizable due to its distinctive W shape – formed by five of its brightest stars.Cassiopeia is among the 48 constellations first listed by the Greek astronomer Ptolemy, in the 2 nd century CE.
